Xiaomi claims 99% of its phone are made in India, Producing 3 phones per second in the country



Xiaomi is Chinese electronic company and Redmi is sub brand owned by xiaomi. few years back, company has invested lots of money to open new manufacturing units in India to attract Indian people sentiments and also supporting ‘Made in India’ campaign.

Muralikrishnan B, Chief Operating Officer, Xiaomi India, told reporters 'About 99 percent of the phones sold in India are made in the India. We make three phones per second. '     

Xiaomi phones in India are manufactured mainly by Taiwanese giant Foxconn. which is also known as Hon hai precision  co ltd. There are three manufacturing partners of Xiaomi in India, including Flex, Foxconn, and Hipad. 

Below are the major facilities centers are being used for manufacturing of xiaomi mobile phones in India.

1.     Sri City Unit – This manufacturing unit is located in Foxconn’s Sri city in Andhra Pradesh. This plant is dedicated in 180-acre area and most of the workforce here is women. They are working delicately for separating raw material, attaching components, putting components in frames, and verifying end products.

Foxconn providing all necessary facilities to there working women. Up down bus service, food center and also  have dormitories for women so that they do not need to spend lot of time on travelling. They also providing training and instructions in their local language: Telugu, Tamil, and Odiya. Here workers are working on both type of work, manual and automation.

2.     Sriperumbudur unit- This unit is PCB assembly unit located in Tamil Nadu with a total campus area of 180 acres. This unit is also is partnership with Foxconn. PCB is 50 percent of mobile phone value. Xiaomi phones made in India has the PCB's that are locally assembled. 

3.     Noida Unit – This unit is in Noida Uttar Pradesh with xiaomi manufacturing partner Hipad technology. This is first special unit for power bank development. The production capacity of this facility centre is nearly seven power bank per minute during operational hours.

4.     Chennai Unit – this unit is set up in partnership with electronics manufacturing company Flex(formerly Flextronics), Its xiaomi’ s seventh plant of India. This unit is not only assembling mobile phones, but also produces PCBA(Printed Circuit Board Assembly) locally.


5.     Mi Home – This is largest Mi Home and located in Bangalore. Total area of this 6000sq ft and covering 2 floors. Mi home is tech campus which offers unique spaces, such as engagement zone and Mi home cafΓ© where in customers and Mi fans can host regular meet ups and spend quality time

6.     Other 2 units are small and being managed by Foxconn.

Conclusion:

Company is developing Xiaomi products in india, also planning to increase their manufacturing units after Notice to ban Chinese Apps.

Xiaomi has released notice after The Government of India has issued an interim order for Notice of Indian govt to ban 59 Chinese Apps, including MI Community.
